Winter checks from NCI motorcycle breakdown
It’s that time of year when hours spent riding through caravan free country lanes are a distant memory and thoughts of winter are creeping into your mind. We thought it worthwhile to put down a few points to help you through the winter.
Tyres
Make sure you have checked the tyre pressure is correct as temperature fluctuations could cause problems if pressure is incorrect.
Look at the tyre and check for cuts, splits and nails that can cause deflation.
Water
Coolant levels should be checked
Antifreeze levels should be checked
Battery
Ensure the battery is efficient as demand on a battery is very high during the winter months.
Invest in a trickle charger for the battery as this will ensure a full charge and avoid long-term damage to the battery.
Lights
Check brake lights and indicators regularly.
Clean them, as winter conditions will cover them in grime and dirt.
Breakdown cover
Make sure you have a good level of breakdown cover, as you do not want to be stranded at the roadside in cold wet conditions.
Clothing
Make sure your winter kit does its job; if you are worrying about how wet and cold you are you won’t be concentrating on the road.
