Formula 2014 official photos released

Date posted: February 5, 2014

With the Formula One season only a few weeks away, official photos have been released of the cars competitors will be driving. The cars are perhaps some of the most radically different designs seen in recent years mostly because of the rule changes Formula 1 has imposed on participants.

Aesthetically speaking, there are plenty of brightly coloured and pretty cars competing, including the Sauber, Red Bull and Marussia teams all sporting flashy new designs.

2.4 litre V8 engines have been swapped for turbocharged 1.6 litre V6s, which have twice the electrical boost power. New nosecones also feature prominently due to the FIA’s latest crash regulations, which has been a long-standing debate in the world of Formula 1.

There’s also been more controversy in the new rule changes with the final race in Abu Dhabi awarding double points, a move designed to give more focus to the final race of the championship. New penalties have also been imposed with a five-second penalty for minor infringements coming into play in the next season.

Drivers are also given a permanent racing number, with number 1 reserved for the current champion should they wish to use it. Drivers have chosen their own numbers, with priority given to those who finished highest in the previous year’s championship.

A global cost cap is also due to be introduced in January 2015, meaning that next year we may be set to see even more radically different designs and styles.
